The Pope has called for a ban on nuclear weapons – BBC Russian

On the day of the 70th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of the Japanese city of Nagasaki Pope Francis urged to impose a total ban on nuclear weapons.

Addressing the audience at St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican on Sunday sermon head of the Catholic Church, the Pope said that in war there are only losers, and that the only way to win the war is not to lead it.

He said the bombing 6 and 9 August 1945 in Hiroshima and Nagasaki became a symbol of immense destructive power of man when he is misusing the progress in science and technology.

Meanwhile, in the Nagasaki held ceremonies dedicated to the 70th anniversary of a nuclear strike on the US Air Force in the city.

At least 70,000 people were killed in the bombing of Nagasaki, which occurred three days after the nuclear attack on Hiroshima.
