NASA plans to abandon Russia’s help in sending their astronauts to the ISS. By 2017, the company SpaceX and Boeing have to build their own spacecraft, which will allow the United States to do without Russian ships. However, expect a full cessation of cooperation between Russia and the United States in the space sector is not worth it, experts say.
NASA will begin to send their astronauts into orbit without the help of Russia in 2017. This was stated by the head of the US space agency, Charles Bolden. This will enable the United States actually start to save. Now NASA pays Roskosmos for $ 70 million for each member of the crew when it is sent to the ISS. A flight to their ships will cost the agency $ 58 million. The development of the spacecraft will take the company SpaceX and Boeing. The US is now forced to use the Russian “Soyuz” in the delivery of astronauts on the International Space Station. However, the head of NASA, Charles Bolden said he hoped that in two years he will not have to sign checks for the Russian Space Agency.
“All this time we have worked hard in order to put on space launches the United States and to get rid of dependence on Russia for flights to the International Space Station. We would not be here today if it were not for companies SpaceX and Boeing, which received a major problem, and thanks to which we intend to carry out its space launches. We are planning to test its ship in February 2017, the first orbital launch without crew on board in April of the same year, and in July held a manned mission, “- said Bolden.
In April year amid worsening relations between Moscow and Washington, NASA announced the suspension of cooperation with the Russian Space Agency. An exception was made only for the ISS program. Later, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who oversees the space industry in Russia, suggested NASA “to deliver its astronauts to the ISS using the trampoline.” For organizations launching astronauts on their own ships are Americans for many years, and most likely in 2017, the plans will actually be implemented. It noted the academician of the Russian Academy of Cosmonautics. Tsiolkovsky Alexander Zheleznyakov.
“Competition for the creation of an operational spacecraft to deliver astronauts to the ISS was announced several years ago, and last year the Americans decide the winner: the company SpaceX and Boeing, and that must build space ships. Plans real enough, at least, Boeing in 2017 really able to create a new manned spacecraft and launch regular flights to the ISS. The Americans, due to some political reasons, seek to get rid of dependence on delivery of astronauts on the ISS ” – told “Kommersant FM” Zheleznyakov.
According to the plans of the American space agency, the two companies – SpaceX and Boeing – will create at least two transport ships, each, in the event of faults. Denial of service NASA Roskosmos transportation of crew members to the ISS does not mean a complete rupture of relations between Russia and the United States in the space sector. It noted editor and correspondent of the magazine “News of Cosmonautics” Andrei Krasilnikov.
“It is necessary to bear in mind one thing: these additional orders from NASA in the form of two ships with their astronauts that we forced to do, is charged with Rocket and Space Corporation and a bit divert resources from other, more important matters, including the lunar program. In principle, we are not only tied the ISS cooperation with NASA, and interplanetary probes, too, we have to supply equipment, including a program for sending RD-180 and RD-181. It seems to me that only cooperation on the ISS will not be limited “- believes Krasil’nikov.
September 2014 National Aeronautics and Space Administration has signed with SpaceX and Boeing a contract for a total of $ 6.8 billion. Under its terms, the company must ensure the delivery of astronauts on the ISS.
