Russian scientists from the National Research Technological University MISA (Moscow) using nanotubes and nanospheres of boron nitride have learned to give the characteristics of aluminum steel.

The head of the Russian project Dmitri Golberg said that managed to give the properties of the steel to aluminum, but the project is very expensive and work is under way to reduce the cost of this method.

The researchers received funding as early as 2011, in the amount of 150 million rubles, which is allowed to purchase the necessary equipment and a specialized microscope. But the purchase of the necessary equipment has been spent almost 75 percent of the allocated funds, adds rosred.ru.

Now, researchers are developing a promising composite based on aluminum – stronger than steel and lighter than conventional aluminum.

Preparation of metal, light as aluminum, but is 25 times more durable made possible by the unique to Russia and new technologies in the world of hardening materials using boron nitride nanotubes.
